For Parents

Welcome

At Little Roots, we know every child and family learns and grows differently. Some of our classes are set in schools or classrooms where children participate on their own, while community classes and special events often welcome parents to join in. This page helps set expectations so you and your child feel confident, supported, and ready to have fun!

What a Class Looks Like

A typical class blends movement, imagination, and play, always tailored to the age group:

  • Warm-ups & Yoga
Small stretches, simple yoga, and “copy-cat” exercises to help kids feel comfortable mirroring the teacher’s movements.

  • Opening Activity
For younger groups: songs and simple dances.
For older groups: interactive sensory storytelling (ex. putting on a pretend astronaut suit, climbing into a rocket ship, and blasting off into space).

  • Awareness & Guided Movement
Activities focused on spatial awareness and cooperation, like reminding our “astronauts” not to bump into each other while flying through space.

  • Props & Play
Using scarves, bubbles, mats, and other accessories. Kids love props, it keeps energy high and makes transitions fun.

  • Free Dance
The final activity usually allows kids to “wild out” with unstructured, joyful movement.

Class Lengths

  • School Classroom Bookings: 30 minutes

  • Private/Community Events (like birthdays): About 1 hour – kids usually have that much energy in them

  • Community Center Sessions: 4-week series, one hour per class. Typically split by age:

    • 6 months -2 years (parents fully engaged)

    • Toddlers (parent participation varies)

    • Ages 3–5 (children increasingly independent)

Expectations for Parents

We want every child and every parent to enjoy the experience. Here’s how you can help:

  • If your child needs a break: Sometimes kids get overstimulated. It’s best to step aside with them for a moment of calm before returning. We always provide a quiet space with books.

  • Behavior & participation: It’s natural for children to test limits. However, it’s the parent’s role to regulate and reset their child so the class can continue smoothly for everyone.

  • During class: We love answering questions, but please wait until after class to approach the teacher so as not to interrupt the flow.

What to Bring

  • Comfortable clothing for movement

  • A water bottle

  • A snack for after class (especially if your child tires easily)

  • Listening ears and big imaginations!

Class Sizes

We keep our classes small, typically 10–15 children so Miss Ashley can connect with each child individually and keep the environment safe and supportive.

Final Note

Whether you’re dancing alongside your little one, or watching proudly from the sidelines, you’re part of what makes Little Roots special. Thank you for setting your child up for success, by arriving prepared, encouraging their creativity, and helping them navigate big feelings when they arise.
